The very first bird I saw as I entered the West Bloomfield Woods Nature Preserve was a handsome Gray Catbird perched atop this Smooth Sumac tree. I heard the meowing call which is characteristic of this bird and it instantly drew me to it's location. A very advantageous perch for this Catbird to watch over things, as it ate and sang the afternoon away.
